Do I have to do the Full Year Course?
To get the maximum benefit from all the subjects and their collective information, it is recommended. Work is in progress to introduce half year courses.
Do you offer accommodation?
No, however, in the residential area close by to Gap Academy, private accommodation and flats are available. We will assist you where possible.
When does Gap Academy start and end each year?
The GAP year starts on the first Wednesday of February and ends on the second to last Thursday of November.
Are there Terms and Holidays? There are 4 terms that coincide with the KZN School terms. There are no lectures on Public Holidays..
What are the lecture hours on a typical day?
Lectures start at 8.30am and finish at 1pm with short tea breaks in between subjects.
What is included in the fees?
Lecturer’s fees, notes and basic stationary, Gap Academy bag, memory stick, refreshments, basic art materials and cooking ingredients.
What is excluded from the fees?
Excursion and traveling costs, exhibition entrance fees, student assignment materials, specific course manuals, lunch (except when cooking), optional short courses, e.g. CPR & First Aid Training Course/s.
Do I need to be a certain age to attend Gap Academy?
You need to be turning 18 during the Gap calendar year.
Do I need a University pass to attend Gap Academy?
Do I need a Matric pass to attend Gap Academy?
It is preferable.
If I do not have a matric pass, may I attend Gap Academy?
Yes. We will assess your situation, requirements and abilities – you do need a willingness to learn, have a great attitude, be18 or older, and be enthusiastic.
How do I apply and register?
An interview with you and your parents / guardians is required. We do prefer, if possible, that both parents attend. Should you be a suitable candidate, and you want to attend Gap Academy, then a Registration Form needs to be completed and signed. A non-refundable deposit of R5000.00 is required to complete the enrollment.
How are the fees to be paid?
The deposit will be deducted off the full amount due. The balance owing can be paid monthly or in full, and complete payment is due by beginning of November. There are discounts for early registrations and deposit payments, and for full payment.
Do the students do work experiences?
Three or more relevant job shadowing opportunities are allowed for within the timetable structure. This allows the student to get a realistic idea of what is involved and introduces them to the working world!
Is there time outside lectures to do part-time work?
We do encourage our students to find part-time work, hence the lectures ending at 1pm.
Is it compulsory to attend lectures?
YES. We expect you to be punctual, respectful and to treat your attendance as you would if employed. Advanced notification of your absence is required, together with a doctors letter. Absence due to extenuating circumstances is accommodated.
